
Patient Advocate
Department: Patient Services
Reports to: Patient Services Manager
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Advocate Volunteer at the Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC) is a regularly scheduled volunteer who has a heart for our ministry and patients. The Advocate meets with patients, establishing a rapport through the intake process. During a patient appointment, the Patient Advocate will discuss the patient's situation, her options, provide resources and offer a pregnancy test. Advocates play a vital role in the daily operations of the Center by providing valuable interaction with patients and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Meet with patient and use Patient Intake Form to discuss her life situation in an atmosphere of warmth and compassion through active listening and other helping skills

Follows appointment flow guidelines for each appointment

Discuss patient's pregnancy options using a Decision Guide

Offer appropriate peer counseling to a patient's situation, including resources and referrals

Work with a nurse for the pregnancy test and medical intake portion of the appointment

Promote an ultrasound appointment and/or Expecting Miracles classes as next steps for a patient, when applicable

Tidy and stock consultations rooms prior to each shift

Look for opportunities to share the love of Jesus Christ and His plan of salvation

Appropriately follow up with patients according to the policies and procedures and guidelines of the Center
CONTINUED TRAINING:

Must complete Advocate Training, EvanTell Evangelism Training and any other training deemed necessary by the Patient Services Director

Follows all policies and procedures established by the PRC and makes note of changes as they are announced

Read through and be familiar with patient brochures

Regularly review resource lists and other community referral sources for patients

Read through articles or other information provided by staff

Role-play with other volunteers and Patient Services Director; keep up on discussing important information such as abortion procedures, abstinence discussions and gospel presentations

Complete all initial orientation training and education within 30 days of hire/volunteer engagement
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
WORK SCHEDULE:

One shift per week (One year commitment unless otherwise discussed with Patient Services Manager)

Three Volunteer In-Service Meetings per year
