Last evening, Politico published an article titled: Supreme Court has voted to overturn abortion rights, draft opinion shows, an unprecedented leak of Justice Alito's draft legitimized by a Scotus statement. This draft shows evidence that Roe v. Wade could be overturned. I want to emphasize that this is only a draft opinion. As such, it is not necessarily the final ruling of the Court.
In a portion of the draft majority opinion, Justice Samuel Alito wrote: "Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences."
There will undoubtedly be excessive pushback from those who hold abortion as a constitutional right. There will certainly be a louder, greater outcry from proabortion groups and attacks on clinics like the Pregnancy Resource Clinic. The enemy is not happy. But, let’s be clear, we also don't want to make the mistake of assuming that this very important legal victory would mark the end of abortion on demand in our country.
Even Governor Jay Inslee responded, “Not here. Not in our lifetime. Washington is and will remain pro-choice. And we will not slow down in the fight to ensure safe, affordable access to every person who needs it.”
We can’t slowdown in our fight to ensure every life created in God’s image has meaning. Our mission won’t change and our outcry for life must be louder than ever. We must continue focusing on loving and serving women considering abortion; on building strong, God-honoring families; strengthening marriages and fatherhood, and making disciples for Jesus Christ.
We must PRAY! 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
We’ve been praying and hoping for a decision like this since January 23rd, 1973. Because we don’t know how the opposition may try to stop this decision, we must commit to pray for protection and steadfastness for all who have made this courageous decision to stand firm against threats and hatred.
God has given each of us a job, position, resources, education, and more. He has opened opportunities to optimize His kingdom purposes. He didn’t place you or me where we are so we could watch TV all day or post our pictures and opinions on social media. He’s placed us where we are because we are in a great battle between good and evil, a war.
O LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear. To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed, so that mankind, which is of the earth, will no longer cause terror. Psalm 10:17-18
Praying with you to move this mountain in Jesus’ name,
